Bosendorfer 214CS cash price?
on: January 20, 2014, 04:19:28 AM
Sorry for the abrupt first post without better community involvement, but... fooled around and fell in love. Wife made me play a Bosendorfer 214CS today. It was, to both of us, perfect. Played some other Boseys & did not like them as much. What would be the lowest, non-insulting cash price for a new 214CS in the Seattle area? Your input is much appreciated.

We are pretty ignorant of pianos so 214CS doesn't mean anything to most of us.  I assume it's a 214cm long grand.

What does it even list for?  Have you checked the Blue Book of Pianos?

It's the largest model in their conservatory series, which is a more "economical" option than their standard series, but still under the Bosie name.

The blue book doesn't appear to list it, only it's standard model equivalent.

That said, on a new piano I'd have thought you asked the price and offered 20% less for cash. Then bargained.

>We are pretty ignorant of pianos

Sarcasm noted, but not sure what provoked it?

List price: $113k
Their asking price: $78k

Did check blue book. No street price given, but am looking for real-world experience...

That's the list price of the standard model, not the CS.

Second hand ones in the 5-10 year range seem to be about $50k, so $78k new seems about right, if on the upper side of right.

I wasn't being sarcastic.  I really don't know what Bosendorfer's go for or any other piano.  It was a way ask for more information about that model.  Even a picture would help since most people just play on them, not really interested in buying them.

Thanks so much for both replies, j_menz. I didn't make any offer; wanted to research first. I didn't know if pianos were like electric guitars, where one can often expect 40% off list. I know too it's supposed to be a softish market, but that doesn't seem to be the case here (3 piano stores inside a 2 mile radius).
