Khatia Buniatishvili?
on: February 09, 2014, 06:17:52 PM
Has anyone attended any of her concerts? If so, what did you think? I have tickets to hear her in San Francisco in April--bought them because I enjoy her Lizst recording. However, after purchasing the tickets, I've seen a few YT videos in which she hurls accuracy out the window and plays fistfuls of wrong notes in the heat of the moment (the last movement of Prokofiev's 7th Sonata is a disaster!). Is this typical or did the videos just capture her on a bad night? Here's her knuckle-breaking program:

LISZT Sonata in B minor

RAVEL La Valse

CHOPIN Sonata No. 2

STRAVINSKY Petrushka

If her interpretations are very good I don't think wrong notes will feel like an issue. It is usually more exciting to watch something live rather than a video so at least for me mistakes don't bother me as much live.

A few clinkers are not a problem, but this??? (Cue in to 14:32 for the last movement.)

Yes, I think they are all out for a quick burn out, never to recover. See my depression topic on nowadays pianists.

She's skilled fo sho. I think she had kids relatively recently too. Having a kid myself, I'm impressed that she's keeping up a demanding concert career alongside the challenges of parenting.
