Rzewski

I listened to his set of variations,
The People United Will Never Be Defeated!
twice today, and enjoyed every moment of it. I know some people really detest his avant-garde style and atonality, but I find his blending of contemporary and classical styles to be masterful. I also find his musical language to be somewhat humorous in a way, not quite like that of Alkan, but it's really something.
Here's a recording by pianist Ursula Oppens, if anyone's interested.
..or Yuji Takahashi (very resonant bass!)
