where have they gone?
on: November 20, 2004, 04:34:00 PM
as a newcomer to the forum, i have been browsing around and i have noticed there are quite few prolific members that either post little now, or not at all.

i wonder where these people have gone!

perhaps they moved to a place without access to a computer, or their computer just broke...i sure hope its nothing worse than that

most norbly there is this guy 'eddie' who is still the 2nd highest poster, even though he has hardly posted in ages...strange
and another further down the list - comme_le_vent, dissappeared inexplicably...and there are more i think

im just curious about these kinda things  :)

Hi julie391

Each member is assigned a unique number which is randomly selected by the Piano forum computer. This number is known only to the Piano forum secret service. Once a member has reached this number of posts, the secret service come to their house and "take them somewhere".

Julie,

(Piano learner is joking of course)

I've noticed it too.  If you look back at the far pages, there are lots of other people who aren't on here now.  I vaguely remember something about Ed leaving -- don't remember what the reason was though.

I think the schoolyear has an effect on some of this -- new people in, old people forget... Dec, May, and August.  At least, that's my impression.

And people just get bored -- Their questions get answered or they give up.  From what I've seen there are only a few professional pianists, many teachers, and then the students and their parents.  I think people get tired of the pf site after awhile -- the novelty wears off.  It probably has something to do with the turnover of piano students too, the ones that quit I mean.

I don't remember where Ed went, but I remember other threads about it.

I would imagine the older piano people get tired eventually.  They've had their say, helped some people out, but are done after awhile.

The site does seem to be growing I think.  I haven't seen any advertising for it though.  How did you find out about it?

There do seem to be times that new waves of people come in.  I've only been on for less than a year and have seen this happen a few times.

If you're new, feel free to post as much as you want.  I like hearing any and all ideas, whether it's from a long-time teacher or a brand new student.  Everyone is an expert in their own area.  I think it's good to hear from people and stay connected on the pf site.  The 'anything but piano area' is a good place to bs about anything without having to do much heavy thinking.  I think some people who only wanted to use the pf site for heavy thinking have left.

:)

Hi Julie, holy crap! You have really been busy posting this past 24 hours, havent you?

comme le vent was banned for being an asshole!  Some would say he's a legend.. he did know alot about various recording artists and composers, but was a little too...ummmm.....eccentric for the forum, if I may put it lightly.

lol, maybe i should get a job :P

i see about comme_le_vent, what did he do wrong exactly?
i say this because(i hope im allowed to say this) i have had a little reminder/warning from the administrator for treating the board a bit too much like a chat room.
if he was banned for this, i dont approve - i like the friendly semi-formal atmosphere here.

in fact i do notice several posters - such as spatula, bob and tash - who appear to have done much 'worse' things than me....lol i wonder if they are in line for a banning.

comme was posting all kinds of derogatory comments about women and their reproductive organs.  I would tell you one of the jokes, but I dont want to get banned too..

he had a few funny ones though- only while reading his posts have i laughed so hard on the forum.  I think nils had a lot of tolerance for a long time but eventually...well...enough is enough.  I guess you shouldnt compare the word "member" to aaa......er....never mind. :-X  Id better shut up now, Im getting too tempted to tell one of Comme's jokes.

fact: i have not been at all threatened to be banned or anything at all because all i do is write harmless jokes that hopefully don't offend anyone, and i have never posted any form of porn on here, and according to comme le vent nils doesn't ban females anyway!and bob hasn't done anything bad!i guess we'll all disappear eventually. i dunno when i'll get bored of coming here, not yet, maybe when i quit piano or something, but that's not for at least another year. so you can all put up with me til then!
i missed the whole comme le vent banning- i think it happened whilst i was asleep cos i remember the aftermath of it.

Some of the more blunt posters are amusing and interesting.   They stir things up.  I'm surprised how the negative ones can stick around though.  It must give them a sense of belonging or a sense of power or they just keep coming back to the same site for kicks.

Excuse me julie?

You're already on my black list and you want to push it further.  Not a very nice first few impressions you're putting on  >:(.

Please consider that kitchen utensils have feelings too.

Yes I have received two friendly reminders about my posting, but Nils has stated that he will not ban me unless I really start flaming uncontrollably.

As for the members and their 'attendance', I rarely see posters such as Peter HK or Dinosaur Tales around.  Janice doesn't post much either now.  And bernhard has seemed to cut back.  Even I'm starting to cut back on this forum, since now I do all my chatty things at the Gaming Force Forums.

That's my thoughts.

Hi julie391,

Chances are in 12 months time you will be the subject of a similar thread.   :)
Actually, I noticed at one point you and I had the same number of posts as me but only a few hours later you had almost doubled it.  :o
At that pace you will be the number 1 poster in a few weeks  8)

Many people (myself included) go into a new forum with gusto but when the novelty dissipates so does the number of posts. I don't have much to contribute on the subject of piano because I am only a beginner. Anything I want to ask has usually been covered in another thread, so my meagre contribution to this site comes in form of pointless threads and substandard replies in the ‘anything but piano’ section.

My addiction to forums is fuelled by the fact that I am thousands of miles from home and do shift work which means my family and friends are far and it’s difficult to make new ones outside of work. So the majority of my socialising takes place in the virtual domain-- with virtual friends...if I have any  ::)

Julie, By the way, 136 POSTS in a single day? You seriously spend way too much time, even if I say so my self, as others know about me and my posting habits.

lol.... Maybe we should take attendance.  See who's still left.

Is there any function of the site that will tell who's still active and who hasn't posted for a few weeks or months?

If you are interested in "comme le vent", search for the MSN topic...  he's always connected.

Both of you are big Alkan fans.

Don't mind the names he uses on MSN  ::)
