Original Etude (Imitating Scriabine)
on: February 20, 2014, 08:40:06 AM
The ending is hasty (I just finished this in one night), but I thought I'd put it up as a draft.

Tell me what you think!

I fixed the ending a bit (made it longer).

Very good indeed Kay. The groupings into five and the distribution of the accents give this piece real power and charm worthy of many hearings. If this is a one night knock-off I find myself wondering what you could do if you brought lasting concentration to bear. Then again, there is a strong case for spontaneity in the creative process. Do you improvise frequently ?

I do. This is my first attempt for which pianistic-ness was a primary concern. This one fits the mittens nicely, and is quite playable. Thanks!

You're obviously very talented and I enjoyed your Etude very much. However, to me, it sounded much more like Brahms than Scriabine. Looking forward to any future compositions you care to share.

It reminds me of the spirit of Scriabin's tumultuous early Piano Sonata in E-flat minor. I'll play it if you send it to me. 8)

Scriabin is one of my favorites.  But I agree with philolog, sounds more Brahms-esque then Scriabin.  But thats not a bad thing  ;D!  This is really great though, I like the "see-saw" effect between R and L hands.   If I had one critique it would be to take more risks harmonically.
