Pieces to start with
on: February 25, 2014, 10:54:28 AM
Hi!:) I've been playing the piano for quite some time now (2yrs or so) but I haven't really practiced pieces which could help me become better at it...I want to try playing classical songs and my goal is to be able to play pieces by Chopin...

What songs would you guys suggest...like 3 songs with a different level of difficulty each to start with?

So far, I only know the simple songs like those by yiruma, to zanarkand, sadness and sorrow, the easy parts of fur elise=)) and alla turca(not good at timing though)

I'm also planning to buy a digital piano this summer...what digital pianos do you recommend?

Please help..i'm still in the process of finding a piano teacher

Nice, and accessible pieces by Chopin:

A minor Waltz Op. Post, number 19 I think.
B minor Waltz Op. 69 No. 2, and imo Op. 69 No. 1 is a little bit more challenging but it's still doable.
E flat major Waltz No. 18, I think

A little bit more challenging:
Mazurka Op. 24 No. 1
B minor Prelude Op. 28
Cantabile in B flat
G minor Polonaise, Op. Post

Liadov:
Prelude Op. 39 No. 2 Cminor
Prelude Op. 46 No. 3 Eminor
Prelude Op. 40 No. 3 D minor
Musical snuff box, in A major

Schubert:
Landler Op. 171, the first five ones are really beautiful
i think it goes like, d major, d major, b minor, b minor, and b minor. Not sure haven't played them in awhile and if you play them together they go really well with each other.

Musical Moment in D major, idk which D number or Opus number though. Schubert wrote a lot!

You can also take a look at Burgmuller's pieces, he composed a lot of music for beginning and intermediate students. Since you've been playing for two years I guess you can also look at Heller's progressive etudes. There are some beauties in there and you can just pick the ones you want to play. If you want some more let me know, okay? Okay!

Rach 3, Goldberg Variations, Hammerklavier Sonata, Rach Sonata No. 2 (not the revised version, that's difficult), Gaspard de la Nuit (Screw Le Gibet), Liszt B minor Sonata, Prokofiev 2.

Kidding. Don't even look at the scores of these.

Here is my grading system (1: Just Started Learning, 2: Beginner, 3: Pre-Intermediate, 4: . x: Musically easy, xx: Requires more maturity.)
These pieces, most of them are quite easy to play, are unlisztenable unless played good.
I'll add as soon as I can think of new pieces.

Chopin: Prelude E minor Op. 28 No. 4 xx 2
Chopin: Prelude A major Op. 28 No. 7 x 2
Chopin: Prelude C minor Op. 28 No. 20 xx 1
Chopin: Prelude Db major Op. 28 No. 15 xx 2
Chopin: Prelude B minor Op. 28 No. 6 x 2

Bach: Sicilienne in G minor xx 3
Bach: Prelude in B minor-Siloti Transcription x 2

Sibelius: Impromptu No. 1 G Minor, Op. 5 2

Mussorgsky: Il veccio Castello x 2

Ravel: Gaspard de La Nuit-Le Gibet xx 3

Rachmaninoff: Prelude Op. 3 No. 2 in C# minor x 3
Rachmaninoff: Prelude Op. 32 No. 10 in B minor xx 4

Shostakovich: Prelude in E minor xx 3
Shostakovich: Prelude in G# minor xx 3
Shostakovich: Prelude in D minor xx 3
Shostakovich: Prelude in F# minor xx 3
Shostakovich: Piano Concerto No. 2 2nd movement x 1,5
