Sleep
on: February 25, 2014, 12:08:26 PM
I haven't slept well since middle school.

Even then it was bad. I had sleep problems as an infant. It all sucks.

I just want to know why I wake up at 2 am and am wide awake.
I just got a solid 4 hours of practice. At 2am-6am

Ughhhhhhhhhh

I hate it!

I'll end up crashing hard sometime this weekend

That's really bad....on your mental health and immune system. Try think of a constant image in your head to keep your hyperactive mind from wandering and keeping you awake. Do you know what the root of the problem is? if it's stress then figure out what it is that you're stressed about.

You'd really have to look at your diet, exercise, and scheduling habits to analyze it.

I worked night shift for years and had to get used to moving sleep schedules.

One problem is that there are 24 hours in the day.  Every day, without fail.

But there are a few people whose body works on a 23 or 25 hour schedule.  They are okay for a while, but get further behind or ahead until they crash.

My brain just never stops going. It's been a life long problem. I just get annoyed with it often.

Funny... I have a cold right now.

Well, having no conscience helps.

You wet the bed every two hours, and wake up crying?

My system has never accepted the 24 hour schedule...never really tired before the midnight. When I was younger and work was less taxing it was ok, I just slept very late on weekends. But now I have had to train myself because of work, otherwise I would be constantly sleep deprived. So I started to get up really early (got the motivation from piano practice before work actually) and took the habit of going to bed early even if not really tired. But it's not natural, so always when off from work for a week or so I soon slip back to my old habits and stay up until 2-3 am and sleep until 11. Sometimes I may stay up all night. The society is just designed wrong for some of us...

Anyway...stressing about not sleeping is a sure way not to fall sleep. Sometimes it's better to get up and do something and then try again after a while (just don't wait too long). You should also make sure you don't use anything with caffein or other stuff like that, not even during the day. They just screw up your sleep. No energy drinks and such...Don't eat heavy before bedtime. Reading a book in bed may help, not something entertaining but something educational that requires concentration. These days I like to have heavy music history books beside my bed, they are interesting, but not something I would read on one sitting. I must never start a murder mystery in the evening because I would just stay awake a few hours until finished...
