Info about particular pieces??
on: February 26, 2014, 02:44:49 AM
Am learner doing Grade 1 Australia.
For each piece selected to play I need some individual information relating to that piece; where would I find this? Is this info on this website? For example I need info on Burgmuller Op 100 No 1 (Candour)?? I also need general info about the composer but have found some on this site.  thanks in advance!!

For composers generally, your first port of call should probably be Wikipedia. Their article on Burgmuller is rather short, but they aren't expecting an essay.  For more, you could try google, and you may have to do so for more obscure composers later on.

You may also find this page useful.

Basic information you should know:  The key it is in (in this case C major), the type of piece it is (an exercise or study), if it's from a larger work (in this case 25 easy and progressive studies), when it was written (published 1852), what the tempo markings mean (Allegro moderato = moderately lively - also that "dolce" means "sweetly"), the time signature (C = Common time = 4/4), and, if the title is foreign, what it translates to (La Candour = Frankness)

Here a bit about Bergy and the op 100 this has specific details to no 9 but the biographical data and the work in general is quite good ;)
