Chopin Nocturne in B Major Op62 No1
on: February 26, 2014, 06:18:01 AM
This is one of my favorite nocturnes.  It was unofficially nicknamed "tuberose", after a flower that blooms at night. Any tips for the beginning of this nocturne would be great.  Also, for those of you who play this one, I need tips for making the Eb-minor scale sound forte and legato (the scale right before the return to the main theme, not recorded).  Sorry for the crickets in the background :/

Your rhythm and pedaling on the first page could use some work. Also, dig into and hang on to the top line a bit more. It needs to sing a bit better.

I'm afraid I have no 'tips' for the scale before the recap. It needs to be legato and forte. Make sure you know which notes coincide with the left hand, and practice it slowly, with just the right sound that you want!

Good work!

In general, strive for better control of legato with the hands. The quality of your pedaling and overall sound will improve.

Thanks for the advice.  I recorded this last summer, and have still been working on it.  I have listened to that video many times and what strikes me is how soft and slow it is while still keeping that rhythmic drive. I agree with you that the top line must sing more, and I think the slower tempo is the trick.

This piece is has really shown me that my right hand is weaker than my left. and that it is harded for me to play pianissimo in the left hand

One of my favorites too.

Here is how I play it:

As for the scale, it needs a lot of practice and consideration. Decide on and pay attention to synchronize the left and right hand the same all the time.

Bravo Hakki you have that golden singing tone that I'm striving for.
