Moszkowski ~ Etincelles ~ fingering help 0,0
on: March 04, 2014, 10:12:27 PM
Altough I probably should wait until I get my Grade 8 ABRSM done (which is about a year away)
I love this piece of music but it troubles.
I have found 2 arrangements with "very" different fingering techniques.
If that wasn't bad enough, when I watch the pianists on youtube play it, they play it with different fingering again!
The issues comes with bars 5-8 etc. Fast scale like melody. I don't want to learn to play it in a way that will be hinder my progression as I increase the pace over time of the piece.
What fingerings have you used for these fast scales and do you switch hands during the scales?

So the issue is six rising notes, drop back down, six rising notes etc....
I find these sorts of passages a right pain, but Moszkowski appear to have liked them. I haven't played this piece, but have done so in other pieces by Moritz.
You basically just need to find a convenient place to cross the thumb under so that you reach the top with a manageable stretch (not really a stretch) down to the next starting point.
Only suggestion is that you don't need to assume they all start on the thumb.
