Gravity - the sound track / film score
on: March 05, 2014, 12:28:48 AM
Last weekend I saw the film in IMAX 3D while in Edinburgh and enjoyed it a lot, although of course numerous liberties are taken with the (astro)physics. What I did think was a real success was the score, which blends silence, instruments, voices, and noise of many sorts into a remarkable kind of sound collage which I thought really complemented the splendid visual effects. The sound mixing is also first class. Anyone else like Steven Price's score too?

While I was thrilled the first time I saw it, the second time was a complete let down.  I had the exact opposite reaction and all the flaws (acting, cast selection, visual effects, etc.) became readily apparent and annoyed me to no end.  The music, while well-suited as the soundtrack, is almost comical considering that it doesn't reflect what my eyes are seeing (with reference to all the flaws mentioned earlier.)

I hope this movie didn't win any awards.  True art lasts longer than the first viewing.  It welcomes you to view it again and again.  However, this film just annoys me to no end.

Sandra bullock was an ear sore. All she did in that movie was whine. In between infuriating sequences of her hyperventilating and blatantly wasting her oxygen, I and the rest of the audience were treated to screen time dumps of nothing going on at all. Was mightily astounded by rave reviews.
