How much this piano can value?
on: March 12, 2014, 06:32:36 PM
Guys, there's an old piano that just sticks around my grandma's house but it's not being used anymore. Some other day, a fellow that works with antiquities offered $6,000 for the piano.
I never thought it could cost something like this. So, for this, I decided to search and know really what value this piano really have.
The name on it is: Gors & Kallmann - Kaiserl. u. Konigl Hiflieferanten, Berlin. It has been bought around 1914.
Here goes some pictures of it:

Got to admit that around where I live I'd take the money, making sure that it was real cash, and run. Or, to put it another way, I doubt that I could get that sort of money for any upright. But I could be wrong; I'm not that knowledgeable about many piano brands.

How come the piano is still sticking around your grandma's house?

From the pictures, the outside is not in a good state, and if the inside is similarly neglected then it's not going to be any good as an instrument. I can only guess that some bank robbers once used it to stash the loot, and buying the piano is the only way to get it back...

I can tell you this without a quote from a rebuilder, it will cost you thousands of dollars to get that piano up to nice condition.

Depressing the pedal on an out of tune acoustic piano and playing does not result in tonal color control or add interest, it's called obnoxious.

I am no expert but Gors & Kallmann are very well regarded pianos, particularly that period but that looks too far gone to be worth anything like $6000.
