Pieces to balance these:
on: March 19, 2014, 07:50:22 AM
Hey everybody!
After finishing up my graduation recital, I decided to go into the 'technological' side of music (recording studio) and am taking a year long course mainly just out of pure interest. I am still practicing, but am not taking lessons ATM (my teacher almost died when I told him this
)
Anyways, I've collected a sh*t ton of books over the years, and the other day I made a list of pieces that I noticed [myself] complaining about on this forum
(I'm talking back in like 2004-2005-2006 kinda thing).
So I'm working pretty steadily on the Prokofiev Toccata, Scriabin Sonata 2, and the Chopin Barcarolle.
I'm trying to find another piece (mainly to contrast the awkwardness of the Prokofiev and the Scriabin 2nd movement) to add to these to work on. The Chopin and Scriabin (1st movement) are working out great, the Prokofiev I started a week ago, and with the magical powers of the metronome, it is actually a very manageable piece.
I was thinking either a Bach Toccata, a VERY contrasting 20th century piece (Debussy/Ravel maybe..or something a little more obscure) or a set of variations or something like that haha!
Throw some suggestions my way. I have a good idea of what kind of piece I'm looking for, but I find the forum discussions often name pieces that I had never thought of (but knew about..)
Thanks

Hi nanabush,
I would like to hear your Scriabin's 2nd, I'm working on the first movement myself!
Pieces to balance... hmmm difficult question :p I'll just post some things I have on my list
- Glinka/Balakirev - Zhavoronok (The Lark, from 'A Farewell to St. Petersburg')
- Brahms - Op. 118
- Granados - Allegro de Concierto
- Schumann - Kreisleriana, Op. 16
- Debussy - Nocturne
- Ravel - Sonatine
- Henselt - Poéme d'Amour, Andante et Allegro Concertante, Op. 3
I hope this is of any value.
Grts,
Carl

20th century, obscure, contrasting, and a set of variations all in one. quite fun to top it off and a crowd pleaser as well, winner winner chicken dinner!
