Any suggestions for tempos of Brahms waltzes?
on: March 20, 2014, 05:07:14 AM
I am learning some of the Brahms waltzes from Op. 39. Does anyone have a list of tempos for the 16 waltzes?

I watched on YouTube Op. 39 No. 9 played by Cubusdk at around 72 beats per quarter and another video of Salvatore Nicolosi playing at around 160 beats per quarter. These were the slowest and fastest respectively. Most others were around 100 beats per quarter. Strangely, they all had their charm regardless of tempo.

Anyone here play Brahms waltzes?

Thank you, Joe.

Find your own tempos! As long as it's not so fast that you lose control, just find the way you think it sounds best.
