fingering for chromatic scales for exam
on: March 26, 2014, 10:43:53 PM
I am struggling to get the correct fingering for chromatic scales, especially F

At the end of the day what difference does it make?   I can do all the chromatic scales to speed but I am not using the right fingers.   When you sit the exam, the examiner does not watch your fingers to see if you are using the right fingers and they listen to how it sounds so as long as I can play the chromatic scales which I can, albeit not using the right fingers I am not going to be marked down for it.

If I sat and played the chromatic scales and nobody looked at my fingers they would be none the wiser and would say very good because against a ticking metronome set at the correct speed I can keep to perfect time.

Are we talking about unisons, or thirds, or octaves?
if it's just playing single notes, then 1313 123 13 123 1313 is the default,
unless you do 1234 123 13 123 1234, which may be faster in faster passages.
