Sharp or flat?
on: March 30, 2014, 09:36:13 AM
Hello Guys,

I wrote a piece in D minor, without changing the key signature, I want to put a chord but I don't know how to write it. Must I write the chord for example A# C# F# OR Bb Db Gb ?

Thanks!

I usually use the spelling that is the easiest to read, but you can write the chord down using any enharmonic equilavent of the notes. I recommend you to study 'Armoni' by Nurhan Cangal, which will require you to have some theory knowledge and ear training to comprehend, or 'Müziğe Giden Yol, Genç Müzisyenin El Kitabı' by Lale Feridunoğlu, which only requires the reader to be able to read music and is much more broad in terms of subjects included than the former, since it practically teaches the basics of music theory except counterpoint. (I see from your nickname that you're Turkish, and you got a nice nickname btw :D .)

Depends what the function is, where it comes from/is going to.

And then whether you want it to be easier to read vs. easier to understand.
