New Competition Pieces
on: April 06, 2014, 08:18:47 AM
Hey Guys and Gals,

Could you please recommend some pieces for me to consider? I am currently looking to start preparing some new competition repertoire for new year. All and any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks in advance.
Pathetique - Beethoven
Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 - Liszt
Toccata - Bowen
Warrior/Memories in an Ancient Garden - Louie

For ***'s sake,
Play whatever you're passionate about. You won't have the same connection with the pieces that you've been advised to play compared to if you were to discover it yourself. You're the one in charge, you make the calls. Expand your horizons and go explore the millions of recordings that are on youtube.

Rachmaninoff Prelude in C# minor (his most famous one)

Rachmaninoff Prelude in G minor

Any of Chopin's etudes, though his Torrent and Ocean ones pack quite a punch.

Torrent-

Ocean-

Also, Tristesse (Op 10/3, and also by Chopin) is quite nice, though COMPLETELY different.

the pieces mentioned above are probably some of the worst possible choices... don't pick them.
