Rachmaninoff prelude a post 20th century work?
on: April 08, 2014, 09:36:08 PM
A lot of colleges require a post 20th century work as an audition requirement for piano. Would Rachmaninoff's prelude op.23 no.4 be acceptable? It was written after 1900...

The 20th century began in 1901.

I guess you can you figure your way after that.

Post twentieth century means after the twentieth century, so something written after 2001.

I'd be pleased if they actually did require that, but I suspect you meant "20th century or later".

Technically it qualifies, but it's probably not in the spirit of what they are after.

this is probably more in the 'spirit' of what they are after. check number 3 of the set for an homage to Rachmaninoff. Darn fine performance over the entire work overall :

Prelude (In memory of Samuil Feinberg)
A Vague Image (In memory of Alexander Scriabin)
Etude (In memory of Sergey Rachmaninov)
Fairy Tale (In memory of Nikolai Medtner)
Epilogue
