Liszt Venezia e Napoli - Tarantella
on: April 09, 2014, 03:04:43 PM
Hello, so I have played the Liszt Tarantella for the first time in public, it would be cool if you could share your opinions.
I had a hard time starting with this piece, so sorry for the wrong notes mainly in the start.
Here it is :

Well-played, especially for a first public performance!

I have to commend you on your technical facility. You play with power and ease, which not many people can do.

At times, I would have liked more playfulness, and more indulgence in terms of musical character. The section from about 6:30-to around 9:00, for instance.  I'm missing a certain feeling of fantasy.

I think the repeated notes need more of a leggiero quality to them.

Overall, I would resist the urge to go overboard in terms of bombast. It is fundamentally a bombastic piece, and you have a  fine virtuoso technique.

Use it to your advantage, and do something really over the top with colour and expression!
Think more brilliant, but less loud. More tone, but less sound.

Excellent work, thank you for posting!

Yeah, I dont really care about technique at all in the Liszt´s - It should be played naturally and with ease. Yet, I still expect the next performance to be much more confident and clean.

The repeated notes in the start were very slow, because I was still kind of frightened. Thus, I played it with a much more specific sound, rather than a sound effect, which it should be.
However, I have no problems with the repeated notes in E major, at 7:40 in terms of sound. Again, I´ll work on getting it cleaner.

Anyways, thank you for your kind comment

EDIT : I am not fond of the athletic and empty performances of Liszt, which are so popular nowadays. But I still think that this piece needs to be sold with the bombast at the end
