The Andante is a good preceding piece for the Polonaise but the Berceuse is so much better.  It's a much better key relationship as well.  The Berceuse is in D-flat while the Polonaise is in E-flat so there's a whole step key raise.  Why Chopin thought the Andante would work with the Polonaise is probably another mishap, like the B-flat sonata mischling.

G major - E flat major is just a mediant relationship, it's common in romantic music and nothing weird about it
