Hyden Sonata in E minor
on: April 30, 2014, 12:04:54 AM
I am not sure of how to play the trill in measure 8. If anyone could help me out, that would be great! Thanks!

Hob XVI:34? I can't see that there is one, at least at bar 8.

The trill is in the 8th measure of the Haydn: Sonata Hob 16 no 34 or Sonata in E minor. The PS Urtext Edition for download on this website contains the trill. The URL is https://www.pianostreet.com/members/gold/haydnj/pdf/haydn_hobxvi_34psu.pdf. It is also visible in the preview version.

Thanks!

Hmm... OK. That follows Martienssen, which is the only one on IMSLP I didn't check. Koeler and Moscheles do not have it.

Martienssen has quite a lot of trills not in the other editions and I must say they appear to me more editorial than Urtext. I wouldn't play them at all the first time through, but they would work very well in the repeat.

Since you're already on the note above before the trilled note, I'd start the trill on the G, and since the next note is the note below, I'd finish on a G as well no - that's going to sound weird. finish on the A -  so probably demisemiquavers.
