Hi, has any artist recorded a full set of the Prokofiev Sonatas? If so, which is your favourite? Thanks!

Boris Berman, Frederic Chiu, and Barbara Nissman are the three that I know of. I think Richter recorded most of them, but left out Sonatas 1, 3, and 5.

My favorite set of recordings would have to be Nissman's.

Who do you normally like? For a complete set, I am tempted to recommend Kasman, but if you say you are a fan of Boris Berman, stay away!

Otherwise, I feel Richter is the reference for sonatas  2-4-6-7-8 and 9. I also like sonata 7 by Gould, sonata 3 by Gilels, sonata 8 by the real Berman (Lazar).

Vladimir Ovchinnikov recorded all of them, but I haven't heard the recording. He told me he found it a very challenging project.
