It ain't complete even for now as EMB is still churning out supplement editions for already published Liszt works in 1st or 2nd editions, not counting numerous drafts and sketches he made. It is a continuous discovery. I have read many bad reviews about the Chinese edition of Liszt, the Chopin is much better. It does contain 2 sets of complete original piano solo works and a set of selected transcriptions and paraphrases.

Actually, I think I found the original EMB publishing of the complete solo works of Liszt online (yay!):

https://www.presser.com/Marketing/keyboard/liszt/index.html

and also here: https://www.emb.hu/en/cattext/SOR/NLE-1A

But they're horribly expensive. The Chinese print I have of the Etudes (Bk1 - Transcedental Etudes) cost about US$5.50, while the Hungarian one here is US$82.95...

OK, YES. I was actually just at the music store today, buying some sheet music that was 50% off. They were selling some of Liszt books in this hungarian edition, half off. It was a good deal. I ended up getting some Liszt (a late piano solo work, Urtext). Also, Schubert Urtext, Ravel in a Durand french edition, and Shostakovich sonata. 30 dollars instead of 60. I'm really happy to have bought some Liszt, because I really enjoy this composer...I love learning his music and I feel like it suits me and how I want to play :P

thank you.

No bother :) I remember my teacher saying that this edition is generally the best for Liszt.

I like the print for these! I really need to understand when and why Liszt wrote a lot of his music. I am not a fan of WIKI, but I do not have much time for the research that I seem to be interested in. :)

One of Liszt's biographies?  Only two reliable ones were ever written:  Lina Ramman's and Alan Walker's three part biography.  LR's can be found online with a bit of hunting; it's in two (large) parts and was written pretty much hand-in-hand with Liszt since he corrected and added to much of the manuscript she wrote, plus answered her questions that she sent.

Worth reading, as are all his student diaries.  I am proud to say I don't think there is anything on Liszt I have not read, (or Cziffra, read his biography: Cannons and Flowers) - but rather than just internalising it all, I do my best to apply it to my playing and compositions and practice regimes.

Good luck and contact me for anything in particular.  I'm here in Budapest, help out at the Liszt Museum when required (and visit when I can for a dose), and would be delighted to push you more into the world of Liszt.

Start with this documentary which indeed goes to the aforementioned museum!

How acutely witty of you!

I suppose I'll have to compose my own great Piano Sonata entitled:  Dan's Te (or Tea, since I am English - what a great serious work that will be for future generations!)

Thank you all so much!

Dan, what an exciting job! I have seen pictures of the Liszt museum and conservatory, and they are glorious.

I love Liszt. I love Liszt. I love Liszt.

I will definitely check out the video and look for the biographies. Thank you!

I saw an interview with Cziffra once, and his words exactly were "Liszt, Liszt...and Liszt". Heh.

Try imslp.org which is my favourite site to look for sheet music. They literally have everything.

Would that that were true!

First port of call, though.

Liszt Complete Piano Works - Barenreiter-Editio Musica Budapest publishes the complete piano works as part of the Neue Liszt Ausgabe (NLA). Henle has a very good selection available also. Peters has most of the piano works in 12 volumes but these are older than the other editions mentioned above. Alfred has some of the less well-known works that are more appropriate for intermediate level.

Try Sheetmusicplus.com, Primamusic.com, Alfred.com, Amazon and eBay. I have picked up some used piano music from Amazon and eBay in good to excellent condition. The price for sheet music has skyrocketed in the past 40+ years since I graduated from music school. What used to cost a few or several dollars now sells for $15-$60. A good reason to buy used if you can find it. Also, check out IMSLP Petrucci Music Library at www.imslp.org.

The complete EMB Liszt edition (1970's I think) has been digitalized. I think it was posted on Pianophilia.

Not on IMSLP.

Once you go Rach, you never go Bach

Hmm...

Seems that sometimes you do.  ;D
