Anne-Marie McDermott

I had the opportunity to turn pages for A.M. McDermott at a chamber concert at SDSU the other day. She played the Schumann quintet with the Hausmann Quartet. I found her performance, quite simply,  amazing. She's a petite, outgoing woman, very pleasant and personable. When you shake hands, you might think she can barely reach an octave.

But, oh, boy, when she plays, she explodes. The sound is like lightning erupting from a bottle.
With a 50-concerto repertoire, she is used to concertizing in large venues--and she really made that Steinway D project, with not a trace of harshness in her tone. Nor did she slight the p and pp passages. Her ensemble with the quartet was impeccable.

I would highly recommend members of PS jump at the chance to hear this pianist. She's one of the greats.

Until then, here are the results of a YouTube search by her name:

I actually heard her many many years ago in concert, with my mother as a child.

I agree, she plays extremely well. Wonderful technique and artistry.
