Choosing an Etude!
on: June 09, 2014, 06:46:43 PM
I want to learn a nice etude this coming year, anyone know anything nice? Preferably nothing too difficult (I can play the black-key etude by Chopin right now, if that is any reference point).

Thanks!

Kosenko's etudes are not for the faint of heart, and the 11 in forms of old dances are certainly not easy (to make sound convincing) but the technical buy in for these is usually a lot less than the non dance ones. Stay away from the Passacaglia, it is a hungry monster.

How long have you been playing piano?  What techique exercises have you done?  Other works that you've played? Details...

Try a Chopin Etude. Op. 10/3, Op. 10/9 and Op. 10/12 should be doable for you. Or go for the Waterfall if you're up for a challenge and think your arpeggio technique is good.
