Can somebody help identify a piece?
on: June 19, 2014, 03:19:02 AM
I was watching a Youtube video on Yamaha's new Clavinova CLP585.    About 45 seconds into the video,  the presenter, Paolo Stefano, plays a short excerpt from a piece.  It is at once familiar, yet I cannot for the life of me identify it.  My guess is Schubert or Beethoven, but I could be entirely wrong.

Can anybody help identify the piece?  I would be very grateful as this is driving me crazy!  Thanks.

It's the second movement of Beethoven's Pathetique sonata.

Or at least it's supposed to be. It's not exactly an accurate rendition.

Many thanks, I had wondered myself about Path 2nd (I'm actually slowly learning it myself) and could hear the similarities.  But Paolo is playing in G flat (I think) whereas it is written in A flat.  And looks like he has added embellishment in the RH.   As you say it is hardly an accurate rendition to say the least, but quite pretty I suppose!

It sounds, to me at least, more like the second romance from Schumann's Op.28.

Thank you all for identifying the Romance.  I was able to download it on ISMLP;  looks like it will be a nice challenge for an intermediate pianist like myself.  It was slightly unnerving seeing the first page laid out on three staves, but I think it will be achievable.  Thanks again!
