Jazz Piano Lessons on YouTube - Trailer
on: June 21, 2014, 11:32:37 PM
Hello group,

I don't know why jazz piano doesn't get much support in these forums.  Everybody focuses on classical, which is great, afterall, Liszt is my guiding light and I grow in his shadow, but I think jazz needs to be given a larger status within these forum walls.

Anyhow, I have a new channel trailer which I have made to the best of my amateur abilities.  As my channel grows, and I get more subscribers, I'll no doubt be able to create a better one at some point.

I do hope I encourage some people to delve or at least put their foot into the world of jazz piano merely by my trailer and daily updated lessons :)

Many thanks,
Dan

I was wondering the same thing. I really enjoy your playing. Your ideas are very pretty, which makes you sound nice. Thanks for the post.

Actually I've always found Jazz harmony to be more interesting and useful than classical tonal harmony. But I completely lack the ability to improvise.

Coda, don't give up! At, first everyone lacks the ability to improvise. People who don't play jazz think that improvising is some type of witchcraft that people are born with. This is nowhere near the truth. Basically, just try to play a different melody based on the song you are playing, but don't change the chords. (This is just a simple way of putting it). I'm not sure of your level, but buy and learn one of the simpler teddy wilson arrangements. After you can play it, try adding/substituting some different to see where it fits. This is just a start. Also, watch some of Dan's lessons!

Dan,
It would be cool if you could if you could post a video on stride piano or putting a piece into a different key-transcription. Thanks!

I checked out your trailer and an analysis of "the Nearness of You".  That annoying buzzing in the earphone (intermodulation distortion) is annoying.
