In need of a good teacher in the North/Northwest Houston area.

Hello Forum,

I've had a difficult time finding an advanced piano teacher in my city.

Everyone I could find focuses on teaching children and high school students.

I know this sounds super arrogant, but I really need someone who can challenge me at a more advanced level.  I've played for almost 20 years, and have had excellent professional-level teachers in the past.  I now desire to take lesson again.  (Further, even though I'm an amateur, all of the teachers I have approached locally have told me that they can't teach me anything because I am beyond them.)

I'm looking for someone who at least has a degree in piano performance.

The only such people I've been able to find have been on www.takelessons.com, but that is just a marketing company that take a percentage of the teacher's fee, and I would have to pay through their scammy website.  Anyway, they make it so that you cannot directly contact the teacher . . .

I've contact the MTNA, the Texas MTA, and the Houston MTA, but I've had terrible luck.

Maybe I just need to go back to school and pursue a degree in piano performance if I really want a good teacher!

Anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

there is no shortage of amazing teachers/artists to study with in your metro area.

have you tried community colleges? usually you can find very good professors with MM/DMA in performance teaching there and can get very good individual attention that route. Also approach the music dept at U of H, etc. even if an adjunct won't teach privately (many do), you can probably take lessons with one of the very advanced grad students (i.e. MM/DMA, etc.). 

Just call the professors and ask them who they reccommend locally. They need to prospect for students and usually are connected to local music community and know who is good and who's students they want, etc.

Thank you!  That is a good idea.

I had previously contacted Rice U and UofH, but I only spoke with the general department, not the individual teachers.  Perhaps I will have better luck with one of them.
