Amanda Maier - Violin sonata
on: July 16, 2014, 09:02:25 PM
Swedish-born Amanda Maier initially studied in Sweden, and later went to Leipzig to study composition under Carl Reinecke (the first female composition student he had, I believe) as well as violin. Eventually she met Julius Röntgen whom she married, and it seems to have brought her compositional activities to a halt. The early violin sonata from her student days in Leipzig is a very promising piece, however:

She befriended Brahms, Grieg and many others during her life. Hope you'll enjoy!

Wonderful piece, and wonderfully played, Martin. The piano part is virtuosic. Your violinist is great, too.

Glad you're dipping into chamber music.
