I remain confused about the e minor chord which occurs in a series of chromatic major chords.  It occurs twice in the piece, so I don't think it is a transcription error, but it seems kind of jarring to me. I have listened to recordings, and the e minor is correct. I wonder if there has ever been any discussion of this. my limited search on line has not found anything

I see where you're talking about but it seems fine to me.
