Kapustin - Preludes Op.53 nos. 7 and 12
on: August 24, 2014, 04:14:40 PM
I haven't seen a lot of Kapustin been posted here. Today I recorded nos. 7 and 12 of his marvellous 24 Preludes in Jazz Style, Op.53. No.12, everybody's favorite it seems, is not as
clean as I'd like it to be... but I think it has the spirit. Kapustin remains darn hard for an amateur
(No. 7)
(No. 12)

Wow, that was some great playing, you totally got me in the groove
and your hands move around the keys damn nice for an amateur.
I'm ambarresed to say that I didn't know this music and also grateful for introducing me! I will go ahead and get me one of those sheets, this will be my first jazz, allright

Thanks for the thumbs-up Carl ! It is nice to be able to introduce someone to a new composer. Yeah, go for it and dip into the wonderful world of jazz-inspired classical music (Kapustin insists
on being called a classical composer who is merely influenced by jazz).
Kapustin's music is just so perfect... at least in the classical-structured items. I find much of his recent work rather garrulous and rambling. Here, there's not one note of bar too many or too little, and he does not make anything harder than it needs to be (except for constantly asking for high tempi). An absolute master of his craft, if ever there was once since Bach.
I am dismayed by the many fumbles in no.12. But having done at least 20 takes, each one with their own little accidents, things were not actually getting any better so I decided to leave it.
I feel like I need to get back to this one although I'm not sure I'll ever get it squeaky clean
unless I dispose with video and allow the scissor in....

Wow, exquisite! Both the performance and the music. Thank you.

Thank you for the kind remark ! Seems like the couple of fumbles in no.12 are not very disturbing. Could well be a listener unfamiliar with the score won't even hear them.
