Windows 8.1
on: August 27, 2014, 05:10:24 PM
I've got Windows 8.1 now, and I'm unable so far to simply move my pictures around the way I like them.  Does anyone know how to perform this simple action?  Surely Windows allows you to move picture and file icons around as in previous versions.

The other issue I have is I don't know how to verify my identity.  That's completely confusing.  I put in my email address for them to send me the code, but I haven't received one yet.

How do you work with pictures?  As files or in a library?  If it's a file just open a folder and click up to My Computer (or just Computer), go into your Windows profile, and find the location of the pics.

I'd try having them send to your email address again.  Although I don't know what verifying your identity is about.

Thanks.

I work with pictures as I always have, in the pictures folder.  If I go where the pictures are in the library, it's the same.  They're all archived alphabetically, and the picture icons are unmoveable.  It's the same thing with my documents.

I'd just use the My Pictures and My Documents folders (if those are in Windows 8).  I don't like libraries.

On a folder, type in    C:   in the address bar on the top.  Then go to Users and your profile.  Then you can get to the My Pictures and My Documents folders.  It avoids the libraries all together.   Unless you're going through software, but I'd still lean toward opening the actual file in software instead of using some software library.  It gets too confusing.

Not sure if this helps...

When in doubt just type the question in Google.  Other people probably ran into the same issue.

Yeah, it's getting better as I find where the settings are to customize it to my liking, but the whole "Start" screen I don't care for and set it up to boot up to the desktop.

The only way I know to get to the off switch is through alt ctrl del.  Is that right?  In previous windows that was for emergencies!

Yeh.  I suppose I could just push its off button but I never thought you were supposed to do that.

On the start screen in the upper right hand click the on/off/sleep button.

That.  Or hit ctrl-F4 while on the desktop.
