Images mov 1
on: August 28, 2014, 03:52:06 PM
So I finally finished my "Tour", an can start on new repertoire. So about a week ago I started playing new pieces.
The pieces re Schubert, no 14 in a minor, couple of chopin studies symphonic etudes. I think I will start the 4th Ballade by chopin, but it hasn't been decided yet.
Anyways, this is the first movement of image, which I started the 20th or 21st or so.
There are some parts that are messed up, and some where the passage work is too loud, and some that are too heavy. But anyways, tell me what you think!
And oh, sorry for the high f.

It's much harder to give advice when something already is pretty good
and you also covered the most important points yourself - some of the passage work is too loud and drowning out the left hand. For me the balance is the general thing that needs more work. In the opening for example I think the left hand needs to be more prominent and the "water glints" in the right hand more subtle. You will always hear those water glints anyways, but right now they are covering the left hand accented notes a little too much. It's a bit of a general problem in passages of a similar nature I think.
I think it's too loud where the right hand starts playing octaves with open fourths and fifths at "a Tempo". There is a lot of p and pp in the score, I think you could maintain that more.

Pretty good. The passagework is the only obvious concern. In places I would consider experimenting with the una corda pedal, not as a volume control mechanism, but for its implications on tone. Sometimes use of both pedals can provide a very delicate sheen, and whilst your sound is fairly clear and luminous, it could be more so.

Overall, you have a decent feel for the structure of the work. However, a few things which could be improved:
I find the pedalling could use work. Reflections in the water must be clear... not blurry! The water is muddy and murky when it ought to be crystal clear.
I also think that you could tighten up the rhythm in a few places. Be careful that self indulgence doesn't get in the way of precision.
Overall, you have achieved a very impressive grasp of the piece in a short time. Work out the arpeggios so that all the T's are crossed and all the I's are dotted, so to speak, and this will be exceptional!

Thanks both for your comments. I've studied it very intensively for about a week, and then it's quite difficult to really listen to anything, rather than just hearing it.
I appreciate your comments and that you took time to listen!
