Anyone been to Thailand/Combodia/Vietnam?
on: September 04, 2014, 06:59:12 AM
Hello pianopeeps,

In november I will be travelling to SE Asia for 1 month, I'll start with Thailand and might continue to Cambodia and/or Vietnam. I've never left Europe before so I'm looking forward to it!

Does any of you have ever been there and has some advice/tips? Places I must visit, places I should avoid? Things I must experience, etc etc...

Thanks a lot for your travel advice! :)

Grts,

Very dirty and rural. A lot of farmland. deforestation. devastation. make sure to have a lock on your bag. And don't get ripped off, they like money. Oh yeah, Don't step on a landmine. We wouldn't want that... Oh yeah, i wouldn't stay more than 2 weeks in asia. The chances of developing food poisoning triple from 25 percent to 75 percent expectancy. Of course the food is nice, but your immune system isn't as strong as theirs.

Whoa, not very encouraging :)

I will mainly be going to the beaches (island) and cities like Bangkok and Phuket. Reason to visit is more to relax, leave everyday life behind me, enjoy the sun and party. I'm not a 'backpacker' type of guy.
Most people I know like money and here in Belgium there is plenty of theft. It is believable that as a white guy you probably are the subject of theft and rip-offs, seeing the value of the Baht I'm not surpriced and I won't pay double of the price but I also don't mind paying a litte more, 1 Euro will get them much more than it will me :)

I'll do my best to avoid landmines!   :o

The food poisioning thing is a litte worrying considering I'm going for 4 weeks, ah well, I'll start eating from shady places to prepare myself  8)

Thanks for the info.

Never been but sounds like a cool trip ,  lots of history and lots to see of course,  on a practical note it would
Be wise to invest the time I seek out some good travel guides specific to ea country, try your library a a start.

I hink this place warrants a visit,  thailand's white temple

As for Cambodia.  research and find some documentary style videos of of ancient Angkor and the most significant superstructure Angkor Wat,  the place is incredible in terms of history mystery significance and also the strange depiction of dinosaurs in some I the thousands of carvings that some argue show humans and dinos may have coexisted....

But, by all means, enjoy yourself! Also, I second visitor's suggestions! Also, Indonesia has a few awesome temples as well, which godowsky would have visited around 1920 or so.

Thanks for the suggestion Visitor.

Those temples look magical, definitely worth checking out. About the dinosaures...  that's just facinating! :)

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
