recital pieces for intermediate students
on: September 15, 2014, 05:14:35 AM
Hi Everyone:
I am planning my program for my next student recital before Christmas, and I'm interested in expanding the repertoire for a greater variety of styles. Most of my students are at around level 3-5 using the ABRSM standard. So far the pieces that we perform are pretty standard: Pieces from First Lessons in Bach, 25 progressive pieces by Burgmuller, Sonatina Album, pieces from various musicals and movies (Phantom/Sound of Music, etc) as well as Prokofiev's Music for Children. I'm wondering if there are other nice pieces that I can include in my program. Please let me know if you have any suggestions
Thanks~

pretty much any of the Akira Yuyama sets of pieces from the standard teaching literature. I absolutely love the music and do NOT think it is or should be limited to children/students. Good music is good music!
there are a bunch so search on youtube ( and have google translate handy). the example below are from same suite, but there is another set for 'small hands' and none of the works have any intervals greater than a 7th in a single hand.

It may be called "Little", but it's four voices and by no means simple. If you think it is, you're either forgetting what intermediate is, or you're missing a lot of it.
BTW, love that the titler managed B
