Is it just me or do you think the piano music of Hadyn is of better "quality" (don't ask me what I mean by this...I don't rightly know myself) than Mozart's. I heard Gould though this and to be honest I kinda really agree with him. Thoughts on this?

Among the Mozart sonatas you can find very gems that are unique in their style
The commovent K310
The sparky K331 (especially the 3rd movement "alla Turca")
The too strange rhyhm variations of K280
On the whole though Haydn sonatas are more free and vital you can feel more freedom in the melodic structure and progressions
So, when you hear Mozart you feel something more harsh and accademical
Haydn is more free of rules and you can almost perceive a strong improvisation feature in his music
No one is better than the other, they're different
This is probvably the 1.000th times that I say this but I can't stand this "substitue" or "what is better" stuff
Why we're so focosed on having "this" or "thise" when we can easily have "both this" and "this"?
I don't think "quality" is the right word here, their sonatas are either good quality in the same manner
