A certain part of Rach 3...
on: October 05, 2014, 03:06:11 AM
Hello, I just made an account on these forums to post this question or "discussion".
I am an amateur pianist and I have a horrible sight reading ability, but I do learn pieces by ear. I am trying to learn how to sight read better though.

Anyways, I only listen to classical music, and my favorite composer is Rachmaninoff. I have listened to his third concerto probably 1000000 times, and I appreciate it more and more each time.

There's this one part in the song that I really love, it just comes out of nowhere and doesn't seem to fit the main theme of the song, but it's such a good melody. The question I have, is.. Am I the only one that hears it one beat ahead of what the sheet music marks it as?

The sheet music has it marked as the first beat, being (the caps) "bum BUM bum... bum BUM bum... bum BUM bum..."

I hear it as "bum bum BUM... bum bum BUM... bum bum BUM... bum bum BUM"

I honestly can't listen to it, and hear it the 'correct' way. Did Rach do this on purpose? Or is it just me? Sorry if this is really vague but I'm putting this into the best terms that I can right now... Haha I know it's horrible describing but it's the best I can do!
Thanks!
