Yamaha P 155 S vs Yamaha P 255 vs Roland FP-50
on: October 13, 2014, 06:19:17 AM
Hi all!

Currently I own the new Yamaha CLP 565 GP at home and I would like to buy a stage piano, because I would like to practice on piano , when I travelling.

I can see only 1-2 155 around in the shops, but I like it's sound more than the 255. I compared the features of both piano, of course the 255 is more modern and has more functions, but the P 155 has beautiful sound too and is closer to me.

The Roland FP-50 is a newer technology and costs a little more, this is an option too. Please help me :)

What do you think?

Isn't what we think really immaterial to your purchase ? But it's a travel piano, look at the options and weight of each unit. I wouldn't get too tweaked about the sound, no digital really sounds like much till you hook it into a good sound system anyway. Sometimes even external modules etc. And these days sound can be tweaked on board with most pianos as well. What you get out of the box vs after a full set up are two different things, who knows how the demo pianos you played were set up. I'd look at manageable weight and touch in a piano I was going to travel with.
Depressing the pedal on an out of tune acoustic piano and playing does not result in tonal color control or add interest, it's called obnoxious.

Thank you for your post. I just would like to know if somebody here own a Yamaha P155 or 255 and what is his/her opinion about it.

But you're right, the main thing is the key actions, and the weight.

You got to play them yourself, it doesn't matter what we think. Now if you said you owned a certain piano and the action was too heavy or too light , someone might say a certain other piano has lighter or heavier if you asked that question, for instance.

Me personally ? I didn't like any Roland I tried till I hit the $2200 mark. All the less expensive Roland's to me. well I did not care for their action. I tried the Yamaha line out, I liked the CP series ( pro stage pianos) best and then the P105 ( entry level). I didn't care for the P155 action. But a lot of people love that P155. I bought a Kawai.
