New upright piano - Bentleys?
on: October 18, 2014, 03:48:20 PM
Hi,
Im hoping to buy a new upright piano (up to about £800). I went around the shops within driving distance today, didn't see too many, but kept seeing Bentley's. They are second-hand dealers that have done up the pianos.

One that I really liked was a Moorely piano, which apparently was just a Bentley bought by a Moorely shop in London and relabelled. I was wondering what peoples views were on Bentley's?

I saw a very nice Console piano, but can't find much online about this one. It was £800, apparently it doesn't play as freely, and is made in China. Anyone know much about this?

Would you recommend I go off what is feels like to play, and ignore some reviews of the brand and instead judge it on it's condition, or listen to the brand reviews?

I personally would always go with what the piano feels like to play and what it sounds like -- and, do I like it?  After all, you are planning to pay a fair amount of money for it, and you are probably going to spend a fair amount of time with it.  You'd better like it!  Glowing reviews (or otherwise) are all very well, but -- it's your piano, and it must suit you.
