Happy Birthday Liszt!
on: October 22, 2014, 01:25:27 PM
Hello,
To remember the Maestro in a positive light, I wrote a lengthy article on his charitable nature. Hopefully this will encourage people to explore his life beyond piano and composition.

Thanks for your comments!

I appreciate the effort in spreading the word. Your style of prose is a little off-putting, though. You're making attacks on modern pop music and musicians without commenting on the many charitable events put on by modern artists, and you're even attacking classical pianists by saying Cziffra's is the only Mazeppa worth listening to (and you used "too...")
Do you have a citation on Berlioz playing Liszt's Sonata in B minor? That would certainly be a strange happening.

Hello Liszt1022 (apt username),
I have some simple answers:
"You're making attacks on modern pop music and musicians" - Of course, because enough of it is complete codswallop to tar it all with the same brush.
"without commenting on the many charitable events put on by modern artists": Of course, because pop musicians only do charity events for their own public image. Usually, they appear at charity events yet the 'poor public' are the ones who still pay for the 'privelage' of seeing them live. Second, I actually challenged the reader to show similar charity attitudes as Liszt, ni the knowledge that this will not take place.
"you're even attacking classical pianists by saying Cziffra's is the only Mazeppa worth listening to" - Of course, because I've forced myself through the others with an open mind and ears. I shall rectify the spelling error... surprised I let that one slip!
"Do you have a citation on Berlioz playing Liszt's Sonata in B minor? - You found my error, well done. I am not at home to edit but I had wanted to write Von Bulow, I realised when I was on the bus this evening. It shall be rectified (when I can sign into my blog control panel... can't remember the password and not at home) but so far, you're the only one to pick up on that, so for that, I commend you.
