"Chopin staccato"
on: December 02, 2004, 09:17:51 PM
I have heard some special staccato involved in Chopin's playing. Bernhard himself has mentioned it several times, but no one has ever described it. What exactly is it?

What exactly are you referring to? Regular staccato, portamento, or other staccato use that serves as accents?

I don't know. That's why I'm asking. What is "Chopin staccato"? I know portamento, regualr staccato, and the like, but there's apparently some special staccato used in Chopin's music, and I want to know how to go about playing it.

Do you know of any instances of so-called staccato that we could look at?

I do not. All I know is that Bernhard once spoke about specific interpretation, and he mentioned "Rubato, Chopin staccato..." when talking about Romantic pieces.
