Debussy Images
on: October 25, 2014, 03:51:09 PM
Hi all,

I'm having a bit of fun with my new recording device, so I'll continue to upload!

This is the second take on the first movement of the masterpiece by Debussy.

I planned to record the second as well, but I'm a little bit sick of that at the moment, so there would be no way I could do it even slight justice.
The third is a pain, but I'll record it as soon as it's good enough.

Comments are always welcome (as long as they aren't on those missed notes near the end, because I already know I missed them...)

Hi pianoman53

I believe your Reflets dans l'eau is coming along well.  You articulate very well all the places where nimble fingers are required, create very nice washes of sound, and all this with a fine balance of the hands, including where the left hand takes the lead.  It just needs a little more refining in places as you already know. This piece is so important that the extra attention is worthwhile.

Regarding your new recording device, I'm going to make some guesses.  I surmise that it is a portable hand-held size recorder, that the lid of the piano was down (closed), and that you placed the recorder atop the lid.  Am I correct?

(Yay, a comment!)

I agree that it has to mature a bit. I'm planning to leave it for a few days, or maybe a week, and then start over. The things that doesn't work are, at the moment, sort of bad habits that wont go away by practicing it.
I think I'll just read it, rather than playing for this week...

Ouch..! I though the sound was better than it was before!
No, it's a Yeti blue microphone, connected to my computer. The lid is closed, but the microphone is about 5-6 meters away from the piano.
I'm not very good at these things, so I don't really know how to experiment to get a better sound.

Thanks for commenting!
