He died in 1924, so "contemporary" is pushing it.
I assume your talking about his original compositions, rather than his arrangements. That being so, and given the rather broad definition of "contemporary" in use, he may be acceptable, particularly his later works.
That aside, he would make an interesting composer to include, as he played an important role, as teacher and theorist, on the development of music in the 20th century. Perhaps as a lead into a work by one of his pupils?
That two works from the post romantic era might possibly be included in an audition repertoire is perhaps, though, sadly too revolutionary an idea for some.

It depends on how "contemporary" is defined in the audition requirements. Some places might say "anything after 1900" others may say "a 21st century work".
Whatever the case is, be able to present a convincing argument of why you chose the piece you did. Doesn't matter if anyone thinks the choice is right or wrong, you have to convince them that what you chose is the correct piece under those requirements.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
