Christmas Piano Arrangements?
on: November 09, 2014, 05:52:33 PM

I have a few piano background music jobs that I have taken on this year. Coming up to the Chistmas period, it is likely i will be expected to play mostly christmas tunes.

I come from a classical background and improvising is just not my thing :( I have been on the look out for some good christmas books or even single arrangements and have had little luck - all I have found are very dull arrangements that are too simple. I want something that is just interesting to play and enjoyable to listen to.

Is there anything you can recommend?

I like "Joy to the World- 12 exquisite Christmas Settings for Piano" arranged by Marilyn Thompson.

my favorite piece in this book is her arrangement of "What child is this"

The Charlie Brown Christmas book may be just what you are looking for.  Nice jazz sounding arrangements that are always a hit.  No improv required.

Linus and Lucy always goes over well ....   ;D
