The "Scholar" we know and love is now a hypocrite!
on: November 15, 2014, 07:44:27 PM
So, as you all may or may not know, BachScholar (who, for being an "expert" of bach, plays his specialty the same as everyone else) has consistently bashed the Chopin etudes...
And, here we are. I just found out about this.

And, it's a complete mess. Well, it's a mess, but there are one or two moments where I feel he may have actually used a little rubato, as opposed to say, the Rach C# minor prelude- a complete travesty.
But it's ironic, because he has continually bashed the Chopin etudes- and as one of the posters on that particular thread mentioned, "in other words, he can't play them". And, they were quite right. (Don't remember who that was. J_menz, was that you?)
So, he proved that he can't play them. I might see if he's uploaded more of them.
EDIT: He indeed has! The Etude op 25/7 in C# minor! One of the less mainstream ones, too.
Aaaaand, he butchered it. Agh.

It odes sound a bit mechanical and MIDI-like.

I went back to the original thread- https://www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php?topic=42179.0 and found that it was actually nyiregyhazi who said it.
Well, you were right!

Oh I know, all of PS was waiting with bated breath about who said what on a thread three years ago. I sure would have been ;)

His playing isn't bad. I mean he may be a pretentious prick for saying the things he did, but you're being just as bad going as far as to say he butchered it :D

Why not focus on your own music instead of pursuing and attacking the ones of others? Seems like you're wasting your energy.

Actually I have to agree with the OP, having endured two minutes of the op 25/7 etude. It's dull, unmusical, and any sense of poetry or nuance is almost completely lacking. About the only mitigating circumstance I can think of is the poor audio recording quality.

It's not- his audio quality is fine.
The audio quality that Youtubers tend to be looking for is zero "white noise", I think it's called. Fans, humming, birds in the background, etc. He has this, and so we can listen to it with clarity.
And yes, the 25/7 etude was quite bad.

Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
