Misprint in Liebesleid of Kreisler/Rachmaninoff?
on: November 17, 2014, 10:04:11 AM
In his fantastic Liebesleid transcription, Rachmaninoff invites us to enjoy a 'Cadenza', bridging from the theme in a minor to the final recap in A major. This cadenza evolves around and idea of half tones, that build an essentially descending melody.

My question refers to the voice of the left hand - the quarter notes on each beat - that begins in the 'veloce' bar.

Four bars before 'Tempo primo', this melody goes g#-g-f#-f# and it continues in the next bar with e-eb-d-db.

Now, my question refers to the last f# of the g#-g-f#-f#. Shouldn't this be an f natural? Is there a natural sign missing here?

Judging from everything else in this cadenza, an f natural is the only reasonable route here. Can anybody guide me?

I attach an image of the bar of interest, the f# encircled in red.

Yep. Looks like they've misplaced the natural to the G (where it is unnecessary as having been done earlier in the bar) from the F. Use your ears to check.

Great, j_menz. I didn't notice the redundancy of the natural sign to the g. It's just a misplacement. Convinces me further (apart from my ears).
