It's a big field. What have you been listening to (and enjoying) that might come close?
Check out Nikolai Kapustin and Faizil Say for jazz influenced composers.Carl Vine, David Tredici, Stephen Hough, Rodion Shchedrin are worth a listen. Ellen Taafe Zwillich and Roger Danielpour likewise.Though not "contemporary", Scriabin and Medtner are a must if you haven't already . And try some Roy Agnew. And for something you may at first baulk at - Galina Ustvolskaya.
Ronald Stevenson, Alan Bush (not exactly contemporary as he was born in 1900 but he lived long enough for me to meet him so I reckon that counts), Stephen McNeff (not sure he's written anything for solo piano, though), Jonathan Dove, Robert Muczynski...
I find some of the works of Helmet Lachenmann to be strangely hypnotic. Most contemporary composers are worthless plinkers who casually puke out notes over a sheet of paper and call it music.A gorilla could do as much.Thal
