When you repeat a section, for example, you could try to bring out hints of these lines, so that our ear can attend to something different the second time around. Think of yourself as a magician revealing little specks of light—subtle colors—that the listener didn't even realize were there the first time around. Schumann was a master at hiding gems in the inner voices.
