Bellini Col sorriso (piano solo) - video
on: November 30, 2014, 08:05:43 PM
My arrangement for piano solo of the aria from Il Pirata. A "straight" transcription rather than a paraphrase, not dissimilar to the approach taken to the various examples in Thalberg's L'art du chant collection: I hope people like it!

Lovely!

So ... is the score to be published?  I certainly hope so.

That's actually a very good question! There is some possibility the three self-composed paraphrases I put on my transcriptions cd will get published - scores are extant and it has been discussed briefly with the company who (re-)released it - likewise in the future I'll have to think about this one (and another paraphrase). The score for this is not formally complete yet; I was playing from an edited score in the video but feel I'll be making a few minor tweaks to it.

Thanks - as you know, it can be difficult finding effective slower operatic transcriptions!

Hi ronde,

I listened twice and very much enjoyed your playing.  Your arrangement is very effective, enabling you to bring out the beautiful cantabile line of the music.  Thanks for posting it.

Thanks, David. After the orchestral introduction, it's in effect an exercise in voicing in the weaker part of the right hand, as the melody is almost always in 345 and the secondary accompaniment in 1 and 2 (plus the lh, of course). I'm glad you found it effective!
