how long have you been on this forum?
on: December 07, 2014, 04:26:16 PM
sometimes when i google search a music question a result appears from this forum that is several years old and i see many of the same names that i see today. this lead me to wonder how long this forum has been up and how many years some of you people have been on these forums. so how many years have you been on this forum??? for me only about a year.

There are other posts. 10+ years for me and some others.
Dinosaur-something is the longest who's still around I think. Besides Nils.

I'm with Bob. 10+ years. Same topics. Same ideas. Same arguments. It's rare for piano learning (and teaching) to advance in any meaningful ways where learners actually move forward instead of stagnate. There are many stagnaters here so this forum functions more for moral/social support than actual performance/learning support. Stagnation is a habit, not a mode of progress. The only thing that can break this habit is actually learning something new that revitalizes the mind and the body.
Over these past 10 years, I became a musician. Playing the piano does not a musician make. This difference only musicians understand.
This forum, on the other hand, hasn't changed much. It looks nearly identical 10 years ago as it does today. There are a few bells and whistles and the name change from Piano Forum to Piano Street, but other than that, nothing.

Almost 10 years. Bloody hell...
Not so long ago during a spell of insomnia I looked back over some of my first posts and my God was I immature. I was 18, I was allowed. It's comforting to know that my thinking has progressed from there. Some people are still saying the same things.
I don't really post any more unless I have a question myself. I just lurk. It's all the same stuff and I'm sick of the sound of my own voice concerning the lot of it

Thirteen years next April. I admit to missing the good old days of Bernhard, Susan, Xvimbi and several others. There are times recently when I have felt people take themselves too deadly seriously. Everyone has the right to enjoy music in his or her own way, to pursue individual ideals without inhibition. The most learned and famous musicians cannot, after all, tell me what sounds beautiful or right to me. Only I can possibly know that. My perception of beauty is likely as mad as a hatter to most people, but who really cares ? I doubt anything I create will set the world on fire and neither has such ever been my objective. If I leave the forum knowing I have increased the joy and creative freedom of a few individuals then that will be ample reason for belonging here. I still think it is probably overall the best and broadest minded piano forum of any.

I've been here 9 years. I don't post a lot anymore, though. I have much less time than I used to. Sometimes I think I caught the tail end of the golden age which began in about 2003 and included lots of posts from Bernhard and the original gang here.
